The following is a brief look at the chronological events that have taken place in the Star Trek Universe. These entries (up to the beginning of the second season of DS9) are taken from work derived by Michael and Denise Okuda, and can be found in greater detail in the book Star Trek Chronology: The History of The Future. These lines can also be found in The Star Trek Encyclopedia. From the second season of DS9 onwards I've tried to highlight Trek events as faithfully as possible. Although I have an updated chronology going to the very end of the seventh season of DS9, I've kept my original entries (in Blue) that I added to the old list that only went up to 2370. In a few cases, I've added a few amendments and updates from established information, which had either not 'occurred' at the time the original list was published, or was omitted for whatever reason. This page will be updated as and when…

Star Trek Universe Time Line
1609:	Galileo Galilei builds the first astronomical telescope. His observations about the moon, planets in the solar system, the sun, and individual stars in the Milky Way confirm Copernican theories. The sky is no longer the sole domain of mystics.
1799:	Astronomer Giovanni Schaiparelli observes what he believes are markings on Mars, which he calls canali – Italian for channels or furrows. Canali is misinterpreted as "canals," suggesting artificial structures. With subsequent writings by Percival Lowell and others, humans actively speculate about intelligent life on other worlds.
1873:	Crew of Enterprise-D travel back to nineteenth century to thwart incursion by Devidians. There they meet Mark Twain. Picard first meets Guinan.
1903:	The Wright Brothers build and fly the first motorized airplane in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, forever giving mankind "wings."
1905:	Albert Einstein introduces his Special Theory of Relativity and contributes to the development of quantum theory. Introducing the concept of space-time and postulating that mass and energy are equivalent and transposable, he formulates the equation E=mc². In doing so, Einstein predicts that the velocity of light is the absolute "speed limit" in the universe.
1927:	Aviator Charles Lindbergh makes the first nonstop solo transatlantic airplane flight and galvanizes world interest in aviation.
1936:	American warship USS Enterprise CV-6, a Yorktown-class carrier, launches. After barely missing the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, the Enterprise will participate in every major battle in the Pacific theater during World War II and become one of the most decorated ships in U.S. history.
1937:	Aviator Amelia Earhart, who captured the world's attention as the first woman to match Lindbergh's transatlantic flight, vanishes somewhere over the Pacific Ocean while attempting to circumnavigate the globe.
1947:	-It is reported that observers in Roswell, New Mexico, find a strange craft, and its crew, crashed in the desert. Officials claim the object was a weather balloon. People begin to believe beings from outer space are visiting Earth. - Quark, Rom, Odo, & Nog visit Earth after a warp core accsident. - Test pilot Chuck Yeager travels faster than the speed of sound in a new rocket-powered plane. Yeager's supersonic flight begins the Jet Age.
1957:	-First artificial satellite launched from Earth. Sputnik 1 is orbited by the Soviet Union, marking the dawn of a new Space Age on Earth. - Although unverified, its been reported that in October of this year a Vulcan scientific party observes Earth and the Sputnik launch. After three weeks of surreptitious intelligence gathering, the party is forced to land on the planet. The fate of the four Vulcans remains a mystery.
1960:	Radio astronomer Frank D. Drake carries out humanity's first attempt to detect interstellar radio transmissions in an effort called SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence). The stars chosen by Drake for the first SETI search are Tau Ceti and Epsilon Eridani.
1961:	The first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Enterprise CVAN-65, is commissioned.
1969:	Neil Armstrong becomes the first human to walk on Earth's moon, proclaiming the historic Apollo 11 flight to be "One small step for a man, one giant leap for Mankind."
1972:	The Pioneer 10 Jupiter flyby space probe is launched. During its journey, the probe sends 500 images of this enormous planet, plus amazing technical data, back to Earth. This mission is followed up by Pioneer 11 and the Voyager series, all of which allow mankind to closely observe the large outer planets and their moons.
1976:	-Viking 2 lands on Mars at Utopia Planitia and sends images from the planet's red surface to Earth. Viking conducts experiments to discover the presence of microorganisms. The test results are debated. -NASA unveils Enterprise (Space Shuttle OV-101), the prototype for its new fleet of reusable Earth-orbiting shuttles. Flight testing begins the following year.
1983:	Pioneer 10 passes Pluto's orbit boundary and becomes the first man-made object to exit Earth's solar system. The probe carries an engraved plaque with a message of greetings from the people of Earth.
1986:	-The first human habitat in permanent Earth orbit, the Mir space station, begins construction. Mir becomes a shared resource and training ground for future space stations. -NASA's space shuttle Challenger explodes shortly after lift-off, killing all seven on board including the first private citizen in space. The tragedy brings the manned space program to a temporary halt pending an investigation.
1992:	Eugenics Wars begin when a group of genetically bred 'super-humans' seize control of one-quarter of the globe, plunging Earth into a terrible conflict.
1994:	An organization that places dead loved ones into cryogenic capsules orbiting Earth receives a brief surge in popularity. The hope is that future generations will revive the departed.
1996:	-Eugenics Wars end. The genetic tyrants are overthrown. One "super-human", Khan Noonien Singh, escapes into space aboard the SS Botany Bay. - Captain Janeway and her crew of the USS Voyager arrive on Earth after travelling through time from the year 2372. - Ralph Offenhouse, Sonny Clemens and Claire Raymond die, and are cryogenically frozen in a small space capsule in hope of future resuscitation. -Earth scientists announce the discovery that a Mars meteorite may contain fossilized evidence of primitive bacterial life. While the findings are considered inconclusive, the possibility that life may exist or have once existed on the Red Planet adds urgency to Martian exploration efforts.
1999:	-The sixth space probe in the Voyager series is launched and continues studying the planets in Earth's solar system. -Astronomers make the first direct observation of an extrasolar planet passing in front of a star, leading scientists to conclude that planetary systems may be a common phenomenon in the galaxy and boosting optimism that intelligent life exists elsewhere.
2000:	The first resident crew of the International Space Station Alpha launches into orbit, establishing a permanent human presence in space. Mankind is no longer a purely planet-bound species.
2001:	A terrorist attack on the United States leaves thousands of innocent civilians dead, a horrific tragedy that forces all nations of the world to re-evaluate their values and priorities, and galvanizes the people of Earth to strive harder to put their differences behind them.
2002:	Earth launches the first interstellar space probe, Nomad. Designed by Jackson Roykirk, Nomad is tasked with seeking out new life forms.
2003:	On February 1, the entire crew of seven aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia is killed when the ship breaks up in the Earth's atmosphere. President George W. Bush paid tribute to the crew "These astronauts knew the dangers, and they faced them willingly, knowing they had a high and noble purpose in life. Because of their courage and daring and idealism, we will miss them all the more."
2004:	Archer and T'Pol travel back to this time to stop Xindi from developing a biological weapon to kill off all the humans in 2153. Archer and T'Pol con the blood supplier to help them stop the Xindi.
2009:	Captain Shaun Geoffrey Christopher leads a successful Earth-Saturn space mission, paving the way for the continuation of manned space exploration.
2018:	Propulsion technologies, and speeds, continue to improve. "Sleeper ships" become a thing of the past.
2024:	The "Bell Riots" ensue in Los Angeles, with unwitting participant Captain Benjamin Sisko from the 24th century. His symbolic heroism brings in a new age of social refinement and tolerance.
2026:	Joe DiMaggio's hitting record is broken by Buck Bokai, a shortstop from the London Kings.
2030:	Zefram Cochrane is born.
2032:	Lieutenant John Kelly, piloting the Ares IV command module in Mars orbit, reports the approach of a large unknown object seconds before he and his craft vanish. Crewmates Rose Kumagawa and Andrei Novakovich, on the planet surface at the time, are stranded but later rescued.
2037:	NASA launches a deep-space exploration vessel, Charybdis, with Colonel Steven Richey in command. This is the third mission of its kind to depart Earth. The first two were unsuccessful.
2053	Earth is devastated by World War III.
2061:	Warp Drive is first conceived and invented by scientist and capitalist Zefram Cochrane in Montana, on Earth.
2063:	The first tests of Warp flight aboard Zefram's ship The Phoenix (an old converted Titan V rocket) are threatened by a time travelling Borg invasion force, finally prevented by crew of USS Enterprise-E.
2065:	SS Valiant lost near galaxy's edge.
2067:	-John Burke of the Royal Academy is the first to map an area of space that contains Sherman's Planet. -Because previous deep-space exploration attempts ultimately failed, a new approach, an unmanned probe named Friendship 1, leaves Earth with a message of peace, warp technology instructions, and an invitation to visit Earth.
2079:	Resolutions are finally reached to settle an anarchic world from a long war of nuclear destruction.
2103:	Humanity establishes a foothold on Mars and the colonization process begins.
2113:	Having learned the lessons of the last World War, the first united Earth government is established. Australia is the only nation that declines membership.
2117:	Zefram Cochrane disappears and is believed dead.
2119:	The Warp 5 Complex is established to create technology that will allow humans to safely explore deep space. Zefram Cochrane is present during the dedication ceremony. Cochrane, now advanced in years and a resident of the Alpha Centauri system, soon takes off for "parts unknown."
2123:	A privately-funded ship, the Mariposa, departs Earth carrying two groups of colonists bound for the Ficus sector and the two planets selected as their new homelands.
2143:	Starfleet pilot Jonathan Archer meets engineer Charles "Trip" Tucker III while the two officers are working together on tests for the warp-capable NX-Alpha and Beta ships. Henry Archer, Jonathan's father, was the main designer of the NX ship engine.
2150:	Australia, the last holdout, joins the United Earth government.
2151:	*FIRST SEASON OF STAR TREK* ENTERPRISE (2151-2152)** -After 100 years of waiting to explore space, Starfleet begins it's launch. Captain John Archer is assigned the NX 01 Enterprise. He helps take a Klingon named Flang back to Q'Nos. -The Deanoblin doctor corresponds with a human doctor on his homeworld. -T'Pol saves an Andorian on a rescue mission. -Tucker and Reed finish the Phase Cannons and install them. -Enterprise escorts a Vulcan Ambassador to a Vulcan ship.
2152:	-Enterprise crew rescues a Sulibon prison camp. -Enterprise visits Risa for a vacation trip. -The Timeline is altered and Enterprise landing party accsidently destroys a colony. *SECOND SEASON OF STAR TREK* ENTERPRISE (2152-2153)** -Enterprise encounters a Romulan minefield and damaged. -With Enterprise damaged, they request help from a space station with a secret agenda. -Enterprise visits an alien world, but Porthos causes problems. -T'Pol asks Archer to assist her in capturing a rogue Vulcan solider on a planet nearby. -Enterprise crew visit a planet bullied by Klingons and in the process teach them to resist being threatened. -T'Pol goes on a mission to capture a Vulcan smuggler and bring him back to Vulcan for trail. -The captain and Malcom are captured when trying to retrieve a communicator. -T'Pol tires to save the crew from killing themselves when they go through a nebula. -Hoshi is trapped inside the transporter and experiences her death from using the transporter. -Commander Tucker helps a princess escape her prison and wait for help from Enterprise. -The crew must take shelter inside the engine supports to stay alive while they navigate through a Nebula. -Commander Tucker is trapped on a moon with an alien who shot him down. -T'Pol is suffering from an illness and she fights to keep her science post on Enterprise. -Archer is called on to help the Andorians and Vulcans from starting a war with each other. -A time traveler from 900 years in the future is discovered and is tooken aboard Enterprise. -Archer and Tucker are captured and brought aboard a prison transport. Archer is put on trail in a Klingon court and sentanced to a Delithium Mining Prision.
2153:	-Travis visits his cargo ship, the Horizon. While visiting he learns of his father's death. -Phoex deals with a race his species claims is the enemy, but eventually realizes his doesn't hate this injured person anymore. -Enterprise encounters a new species studying a star and they join forces in studying it. -Scientists uncover fragments and frozen Borg in the Artic. They awaken them and the two borg assimilate the scientists and escape in a shuttle. Enterprise is ordered to stop them. -Archer recalls his days in the NX program and his friend AG Robbinson who now has died while mountain climbing. -Archer gets captured by a bounty hunter for escaping the Klingon prison. -The Xindi attack Earth with a prototype and Enterprise is recalled to help defend Earth from another attack. *THIRD SEASON OF STAR TREK* ENTERPRISE (2153-2154)** -Enterprise enters the Delphic Expanse. They visit a planet where a Xnidi is being held and get captured themselves. -Enterprise encounters scavengers when they go adrift from distortions. -Archer and two crewmen are transformed into an alien species and later turned back. -Enterprise rescues a woman who can takes scans of their bodies and she escapes via the Xnidi. -Enterprise finds a Vulcan ship inside a Trellium D asteriod field adrift. -Hoshi is contacted by a lonely alien and he has the ability to communicate telepathically, who gives Enterprise info on the Xnidi. -Archer, Reed and Major Hayes infiltrate a Xindi-Sloth industrial colony to learn more about the weapon of mass destruction that will be used against Earth. -A spatial distortion leaves Archer unable to form any new long-term memories. -Enterprise discovers a village of humans, living a 19th-century Western lifestyle in the Expanse. -When Trip suffers a catastrophic injury, his only hope for survival is a transplant from a "mimetic simbiot" which Phlox grows from one of his exotic creatures. -Archer is visited by Daniels and is informed of Xindi working in the past to develop a virus to kill the human race. -A group of religous aliens get rescued by Enterprise and hijack the ship for their war. -Commander Shran enters the Expanse and aids Enterprise in stealing the proto-type. -Archer tricks Degra into revealing the location of the Weapon Site. -Enterprise finds in alien inside an anomaly. Meanwhile the crew have their own problems. -Phlox and T'Pol have to maintain Enterprise while in a distortion field.
2154:	-Archer tries to save insectiod babies while the crew try to convince him of continuing their mission. -Enterprise reaches Azadi Prime and Archer, from a message from the future, tries to convince the Xindi that humans aren't the enemy. -While dissension among Xindi ranks festers, Enterprise tries to recover from a devastating attack. -Two high-ranking Xindi offer to stop the launch of their superweapon if Archer can prove they've been manipulated. Meanwhile, the crew mourns their lost mates. -An attempt to use a Xindi subspace corridor leads the Enterprise crew to a bizarre encounter with their own descendants. -Archer and Hoshi stand before the Xindi Council as T'Pol and Reed lead a team into the heart of a Sphere. -With help from Xindi allies, the Enterprise crew attempts to stop the arming of the Weapon aimed toward Earth. -Archer puts his life on the line in a risky gambit to intercept the Xindi superweapon and disarm it from within. *FOURTH SEASON OF STAR TREK* ENTERPRISE (2154-2155)** -Archer and the NX-01 find themselves in Earth's past, with events of World War II altered by the Temporal Cold War. With Silik's help, Archer hones in on the temporal operative who altered Earth's past and threatens to destroy all of time. -Once the NX-01 finally returns to Earth, the weary crewmen face repercussions of their journeys, both positive and negative. -When genetic supermen left over from the Eugenics Wars hijack a Klingon ship, Archer must rely on their creator, the criminal Dr. Arik Soong, to help hunt them down. -Arik Soong leads his band of Augments to a medical facility where hundreds of genetically enhanced embryos are still stored, intending to retrieve them and bring them to life. -In defiance of their "father," Arik Soong's Augments devise a heinous plot against the Klingons which will surely lead to interstellar war. -Earth's embassy on Vulcan is bombed, and the ensuing investigation puts Archer and T'Pol on the trail of a Vulcan religious faction hiding in a treacherous desert. -Archer and T'Pol encounter the Syrrannites, a radical group hiding in the Vulcan desert, while the NX-01 crew contends with Vulcan power ploys. -Archer, T'Pol and T'Pau attempt to bring the Kir'Shara — an artifact believed to contain Surak's original writings — to the Vulcan capital, as the NX-01 gets involved in a Vulcan-Andorian military clash. -The inventor of the transporter, Emory Erickson, comes aboard Enterprise for a risky experiment to save his son unknown by the crew. -Noncorporeal aliens study the Enterprise crew as they respond to a fatal viral infection brought on board from an away mission. -Enterprise journeys to Babel with a Tellarite ambassador on board for peace talks with the Andorians, when a distress call from Shran is received. -Archer tries to unify the Andorians, Tellarites and Vulcans in a plan to capture a marauder ship threatening to destabilize the region. -Archer visits Shran's icy homeworld to find an Andorian subspecies called the Aenar, to determine their connection to the marauder destroying ships in the region. -While Enterprise visits Earth for the launch of Columbia, Phlox is kidnapped and forced to help the Klingons deal with a grave threat toward their species. -With Columbia's help, the Enterprise crew grapples with sabotage to their ship as they pursue the truth behind the kidnapping of Phlox. - Klingons loose their Ridges due to a genetic accident. - As a gift for negotiating with the Orion Syndicate, Captain Archer receives three Orion Slave Girls.
2155:	- In the mirror universe, Commander Archer mutinies against Captain Forrest in order to capture a future Earth ship found in Tholian space. Archer then commandeers the 23rd-century Defiant from the Tholians and uses it in a nefarious power grab. - A xenophobic faction of humanity threatens to undermine talks to form a new coalition of planets. - A human isolationist leader threatens to destroy Starfleet Command unless all aliens leave Earth immediately. - A human isolationist leader threatens to destroy Starfleet Command unless all aliens leave Earth immediately.
2156:	Romulan Wars begin between Earth Forces and the Romulan Star Empire.
2160:	Romulan Wars ended by the Battle of Cheron. The Treaty of Algeron establishes the Romulan Neutral Zone.
2161:	United Federation of Planets incorporated. Starfleet established, with a charter "to boldly go where no man has gone before…" - Captain Archer and the crew return to Earth to face the decommission of Enterprise and signing of the Federation charter.
2165:	Sarek of Vulcan is born.
2167:	USS Essex, Daedalus Class, is reported missing. In 2368, USS Enterprise-D discovers disembodied lifeforms on Mab-Bu IV were responsible for the ship's loss.
2218:	First Contact with the Klingon Empire. The incident is a disaster, leading to nearly a century of hostilities between the Klingons and the Federation.
2222:	Montgomery Scott is born.
2227:	Leonard H. McCoy is born.
2230:	Spock is born, son of Sarek and Amanda.
2233:	James Tiberius Kirk is born in Iowa on Earth.
2237:	Hikaru Sulu is born in San Francisco on Earth.
2239:	Uhura is born.
2243:	Dr. Richard Daystrom invents duotronics, the basis for the computer systems used aboard the Enterprise and other Starfleet vessels..
2245:	The first USS Enterprise, NCC 1701, is launched. Captain Robert April commands the ship's first five-year mission of exploration.
2245:	Pavel A. Chekov is born.
2250:	Kirk enrolls in Starfleet Academy. As a cadet, he serves aboard the USS Republic.
2251:	Christopher Pike assumes command of the Enterprise. He leads two five-year missions of exploration into the unknown.
2252:	Spock, a cadet at Starfleet Academy, begins serving aboard the Enterprise under Captain Pike.
2253:	Spock graduates from Starfleet Academy.
2254:	Kirk graduates from Starfleet Academy, the only cadet ever to beat the infamous no-win Kobayashi Maru training scenario. Kirk is assigned to USS Farragut.
2254:	USS Enterprise at planet Talos IV. ("The Cage" [TOS]).
2261:	David Marcus, son of James Kirk and Carol Marcus, is born.
2264:	James T. Kirk begins historic five-year mission as Captain of the Enterprise.
2266:	*FIRST SEASON OF THE ORIGINAL STAR TREK* SERIES. (2266-2267)** -Romulans violate the Neutral Zone for the first time in over a century. -Captain Christopher Pike, severely injured in a training accident, returns to Talos IV to live.
2267:	-SS Botany Bay, Khan's sleeper ship is discovered adrift near the Mutara Sector. Khan and his followers are exiled to planet Ceti Alpha V. -Relations with Klingon Empire deteriorate; open warfare is averted by establishment of the Organian Peace Treaty.
	*SECOND SEASON OF THE ORIGINAL STAR TREK* SERIES. (2267-2268)** -Spock returns to his homeworld to take T'Pring as his bride, but he is spurned in favour of Stonn. -Accidental discovery of a parallel 'mirror' universe. -Coridan is admitted to the Federation after the Babel Conference. -USS Defiant* arrives from the future in the 2267 to apprehend Klingon renegade Darvin, and prevent him from murdering Kirk.
2268:	*THIRD SEASON OF THE ORIGINAL STAR TREK* SERIES. (2268-2269)** -Romulan/Klingon alliance established, permitting the exchange of spacecraft designs and military technology, including the cloaking device. -Kirk and Spock arrested by Romulan authorities on a covert mission to steal an improved Romulan cloaking device.
2269:	-Kirk's five year mission ends; Enterprise returns to Spacedock for major upgrade. -Kirk promoted to admiral, Spock and McCoy retire from Starfleet.
2271:	*STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE.* -Enterprise successfully defends Earth from V'Ger probe. Spock and McCoy return to Starfleet.
2284:	Spock becomes an instructor at Starfleet Academy. USS Enterprise assigned to training duty at the Academy.
2285:	*STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN.* -Khan escapes from exile on Ceti Alpha V, hijacks USS Reliant, tries to steal project Genesis. -Spock dies defending the Enterprise.
	*STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK.* -USS Enterprise, NCC 1701 destroyed while Kirk and crew rescue Spock's body, which was later reunited with his katra. -Spock is reborn at Genesis Planet. - David Marcus is killed by Klingons.
2286:	*STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME.* -Kirk and company save Earth from an alien probe by bringing two humpback whales to the 23rd century. -USS Enterprise-A, the second starship to bear the name, is launched. Kirk demoted to Captain, and placed in command of the new ship.
2287:	*STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER.* (this movie is considered non-canon) -USS Enterprise-A is hijacked by Spock's half-brother, Sybok, who pursues his visions of God.
2290:	Hikaru Sulu promoted to Captain of the USS Excelsior.
2292:	Tuvok begins first Starfleet career as Junior Science Officer aboard the Excelsior.
2293:	*STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY.* -Klingon moon Praxis explodes, crippling the Klingon economy, forcing major cutbacks in military expenditures, culminating in the Khitomer peace accords. -USS Enterprise-A retired.
2293:	-USS Enterprise-B, Excelsior Class is launched. On maiden voyage Captain Kirk is missing, presumed dead after discharge from unknown spatial anomaly destroys Deflector Room, in which Kirk was attempting to affect repairs. (Captain Harriman was charged with gross ineptitude and negligence and was banned from taking command of another Starship ever again. He is now enduring a 40 year sentence mining useless ores on some asteroid somewhere ;)
2295:	Captain Scott retires, is missing en route to the Norpin Colony aboard USS Jenolen.
2298:	Tuvok resigns from the Academy.
2305:	Jean-Luc Picard born in LaBarre, France, son of Maurice and Yvette-Gessard.
2311:	The Tomed Incident. The Romulans enter an extended period of isolation that lasts until 2364.
2324:	Beverly Howard, the future Doctor Crusher, is born.
2327:	Jean-Luc Picard graduates from Starfleet Academy.
2328:	Cardassian Union annexes Bajor.
2332:	Benjamin Sisko is born on Earth.
2333:	Jean-Luc Picard assumes command of the USS Stargazer.
2335:	William T. Riker is born in Valdez, Alaska, on Earth.
2336:	Deanna Troi is born on Betazed.
2337:	Natasha Yar is born on Turkana IV.
2338:	Data is discovered on planet Omicron Theta.
2340:	Worf is born on the Klingon Homeworld.
2341:	Jadzia is born on Trill.
2343:	Kira Nerys is born on Bajor.
2344:	USS Enterprise -C is destroyed at Narendra III.
2346:	-Worf's parents are killed by Romulans at the Khitomer massacre. Worf is adopted by a human Starfleet officer, Sergey Rozhenko. -Terok Nor, an ore processing facility orbiting Bajor is built by Cardassians during the occupation.
2348:	Annika Hansen, the future Seven of Nine is born.
2349:	Harry Kim is born.
2353:	Chaoktay enters Starfleet Academy.
2355:	-USS Stargazer is nearly destroyed in the Battle of Maxia. -Jake Sisko is born.
2357:	Riker graduates from Starfleet Academy. His first assignment is the ill-fated USS Pegasus.
